Let’s face it, most people don’t like getting their photo taken, and that includes me! It's interesting how we enjoy taking selfies but shy away from professional family photos. Why is that? I honestly don’t have the answer, but I’ve had to confront and overcome my own fear of being photographed to be more present in my brand—after all, I am my brand!

Initially, I felt incredibly awkward in front of the camera. I didn’t know where to put my hands, felt uncomfortable, and worried about looking silly. Over time, I realized that being visible was crucial for connecting with my audience and building my brand identity. So, I started focusing on ways to overcome these fears and become more comfortable during photo sessions.

Through my own journey, I’ve learned some valuable techniques that can help others who feel the same way. One of the most effective methods I’ve discovered is to create a relaxed and fun environment. When I’m photographing people who feel awkward or reluctant, I make it a point to engage with them in a light-hearted manner. Making them laugh and encouraging a bit of silliness can work wonders. It’s amazing how quickly people loosen up and start to enjoy the process when they’re having fun.

By breaking the ice and creating a playful atmosphere, you can capture natural smiles and genuine interactions. These authentic moments often result in the best photos, as they reflect true emotions and connections. Additionally, I make sure to offer gentle guidance on posing and provide reassurance throughout the session, which helps to build confidence and ease any remaining tension.

In essence, my approach is about creating an experience rather than just a photo session. It’s about making people feel comfortable, confident, and happy in front of the camera. This way, not only do they end up with beautiful photos, but they also leave with positive memories of the experience.

So, if you’re someone who dreads being in front of the camera, know that you’re not alone. And remember, the key to great photos lies in feeling relaxed and having fun. Embrace the moment, let go of your inhibitions, and trust that your photographer’s goal is to capture the best version of you.
